INTRODUCING
ROCKY LANDON
Online Guest Teacher
Hi,
Welcome to the pilot course.
I hope that we all can learn from one another as we complete this course
together.
My name is Rocky Landon. I
am from Wabigoon, Dinorwic, Eagle River and Dryden area. I lived in all
of those towns as a young person. Now I live in a town called Kingston,
[maybe if you get a map of Ontario, and you look east, near Lake Ontario...you
can find it]. I worked in Kenora for about 11 years as a grade 7 & 8 teacher.
I liked teaching English and history....and coaching volleyball. Gosh,
life would be perfect if I only had to coach.
I think volleyball is one
of the best sports going...besides hockey. My favourite team is Toronto
Maple Leafs. When I was in high school, I used to play football and wrestle.
This past year, I was given the opportunity to coach wrestling [not WWF
stuff, just amateur stuff].
I am married and have two
children, a boy (10) and a girl (8). My son is doing a lot of gymnastics
at a Boy's club near my house. My daughter likes to go horse back riding
at a farm outside of the city. Me,
I used to like going fishing but since I moved to Southern Ontario, my
fishing life has changed [how sad]. You know if I could, I would teach
a course in fishing. ....Wouldn't that be nice to get a credit for learning
how to fish? But, you don't know how well I fish [smiles; my guiding friends
used to tease me about my famous shore lunches, spam and northerns].
Now, I love to go out fishing
in a canoe....motorboats are too loud, although, when I worked as a fishing
guide, I used one. And I used to catch fish. You know what? Since I have
had a canoe in the south, I have not been lucky since. How many of you
go fishing?
My wife's name is Petra (it
is German name, for a German lady) and my children are called Benjamin
and Katrina. Both of my children are great...they like to go fishing [even
when they don't catch anything--we do that a lot down here], canoeing,
camping, and playing a variety of sports: kickball, volleyball, basketball,
hockey, soccer and badminton.
How old am I? I think it is
41...when you get to my age, your memory starts to go....which reminds
me, it is time to go.
Take care,
Rocky
