Netscape Navigator Gold Web Page Editor Tutorial ![]()
Font attributes (size and color) are a nice way to spice up your page, however these "features" are not supported by older browsers. Users visiting your page may not be able to properly view it if they are not using Netscape Navigator (or another HTML 3.2 compatable browser). Please use these tags with caution. You are now going to change the color of each list item in the first (unordered) list on your page. Double-click on the word "Chevettes" in the first list. The entire word should now be highlighted. Click on the colored cube in the middle button-bar (pictured below).
A dialog box much like the one pictured at left will pop up. Select a color of your choice by clicking on it, and then click OK. It will appear as if nothing happened, however once you click somewhere else on the screen (to un-highlight the word "Chevettes"), the word "Chevettes" will change to the color you just chose. I chose the color red. Now, follow the same procedure for the other two items on this list. Make sure you pick three different colors!
Your list should now look something like the picture on the right. If you wish, you may also select specific characters within a word by clicking and dragging (like selecting text in MS-Word) the mouse to highlight specific characters. You may then change the color of just the highlighted portion of your work. If you wish to make all the text on your page one color, I suggest you use the page properties discussed earlier in this tutorial.
One thing to look out for when changing font colors is the color of the links on the current page. If the links are blue, and you go around changing words to blue, people will think that it is a link, and be confused (I know, I made words blue and red in the example). Not every browser underlines links, so be careful!
Your next task will be to change the font size of some of the entries in your ordered list. To begin, you must highlight the first entry. To do this, click and hold right before the word "Pontiac" in the first entry, and drag your mouse to the right until the words "Pontiac Bonneville" are completely highlighted. Once they are, release the mouse button (the words should remain highlighted) and click on the "A+" on the middle button bar. The size of the words should increase. Click on it until the white box to the right of the button reads: "+4". Make the next entry (Chevy Caprice Classic Wagon) font size 4, also. Now, in groups of two, decrease the rest of the list entries by one size until you reach a font size of +1. Now make the next list entry have a font size of 0. You should now have two list entries left. Make the final one font size -2 and the one before it font size -1. Your document should resemble the image at left.
Make sure to save your document now, and go ahead and publish it. Check to make sure that everything looks the way it is supposed to. If you are unsure how your page should look, take a look at My Page and compare. They should look very similar.
