Netscape Navigator Gold Web Page Editor Tutorial ![]()
This step deals with tables, and how to create them. You must be using Netscape Navigator Gold v3.0 Beta 3 or higher in order to complete this step. Only a few browsers currently support tables, so you may wish to not use them. If you would like to skip this step, Bail Out now... The first thing you have to do is decide where on your page you would like your table. Begin by clicking after the final entry in the ordered list (Dodge Neon). Press return. Another double pound sign should appear. End the ordered list (get rid of the double pound signs), and then click on the second to last button on the middle button-bar (it is a square divided into four sections). The following dialog box should appear.
You want to create a table with 5 rows and 3 columns, with a border line width of 2 pixels, cell spacing of 3 pixels, and cell padding of 2 pixels. Check the box marked "Table width:" and make sure it is set at "100 % of window." If you wish to change the cell color, check the appropriate box, and click "Choose Color." You may pick any color you wish. If the text later becomes hard to read on the table because of the background color, you now know how to change it! You also wish to include a caption above the table. When all these selections are correct, click OK. The cursor should now be above the table and centered. Type the following: "The following is a cost analysis of some cars:". Next, click in the top left cell of table. Going across the top, enter "Year" in the first cell, "Saturn" in the second cell, and "Neon" in the third cell. Going down the left-hand side (under "Year") enter "1994" in the first cell; and then "1995", "1996", and "1997 (predicted)" in the remaining three cells. In the 8 cells under the car names, enter some dollar amounts... you can pick 'em. Below is a look at what your table should resemble.
Your final document should look like this one. Well, that is about all for now. Netscape Navigator Gold does not support forms or frames as of yet. When it does, hopefully this tutorial will expand to cover them, but for now, that's all folks! You can now return to the start of the Netscape Gold Tutorial, or go see some fish!
